creative passion

Photobucket

Long weekend, enough snow to eliminate a bike ride but not enough for sledding, chores done, viola practiced and Xander sat down to play some lame online game.

"Get up! Do something!" I enthused. "You need to find a creative passion for your empty hours. Choose a subject, learn a skill, become an expert."

My children are familiar with this lecture. I don't care if they knit, juggle or write novels; I simply want them to find a passion they love-- one that calls to them at night with new ideas, something they run home from school to put the finishing touches on and search for tips on how to make it better next time around.

Monday, Xander poured his energy into this video. You can imagine the chaos with all these little actors running in and out of my house, costumes and props flying everywhere. Video is a fabulous outlet for kids because it involves planning, storytelling, props, costumes, filming and editing skills (and the internet is full of fabulous tutorials).

p.s. it starts out tame-- but gets exciting pretty quickly.
p.p.s. sure wish I'd cleaned that smudge off my lens.

Mary is a little actress. I caught a glimpse of her at sixteen as she mounted her pink beach cruiser. This was the perfect creative outlet. Way to encourage them! Sure love you.
